Thing #18: Playing around with PBwiki

"Sandbox" is the term that wikis often use to describe the area of the website that should be used for pure play. For this discovery and exploration exercise, we’ve set up a whole Nebraska Learns 2.0 Favorites wiki* that’s for nothing but play!

For this “explore-and-play-with-wikis” exercise, you are asked to add an entry or two to the Nebraska Learns 2.0 wiki. The theme of this wiki is simply “Favorites” : Favorite books, favorite vacation spots, favorite restaurants, favorite anything …all you need to do is play and add your thoughts. To mark your adventure on this site, you should add your blog to the Favorite Blogs page.

Discovery Resources:
Discovery Exercise:
  1. Access the Nebraska Learns 2.0 wiki and create your own account to join the wiki and begin editing.

  2. Add your blog to the Favorite Blogs page. That's how we'll know that you've been there. It’s easy to do if you follow these simple steps:

    • Go to the Edit tab of the Favorite Blogs wiki page.
    • Type in the name of the blog you will be linking to.
    • Highlight the text you just entered.
    • Click on the Insert/Edit Link icon. Change Link Type to URL. Enter the URL for the blog into the URL box. Click the OK button.
    • Click the Save button at the bottom of the wiki page.

  3. Add a favorite or two to a few other pages (Favorite books, favorite vacation spot, etc). If you are the first one to add a favorite to a page, you will have to create the page first. PBwiki will easily guide you thru the process.

OPTIONAL: If you feel up to the challenge, you might even want to create a new page for book reviews or short travel essays and link up to that.

  4. Create a post in your blog about the experience.
* NOTE: The Nebraska Learns 2.0 Wiki was created using the free version of PBwiki, a tool that lets you create webpages that anyone can edit.

I left info on favorite blog, favorite book, and favorite web site. Once I figured out how to leave info was kinda fun. I can see by doing this thing how much a person can learn from wikis and also pretty neat to see what everyone favorites are.http://librarianbrenda.blogspot.com Merry Christmas everyone and Have a Happy New Year.

Well we have had quite a day with this one. I am so glad we have had this learning opportunity. When it comes to technology, I am not very experienced and have really had fun learning about all that is available. I am looking forward to utilizing my newly discovered things in the library as well as with other parts of my life outside the library. Thanks for the learning opportunity.

Very Cool.
