Thing #10: Play around with Image Generators

Generators? No, we're not talking about those gas powered back-up things. The generators we're talking about allow you to easily manipulate pictures and graphics to create fun images like these:

Magazine cover dummies book Anime comic strip

For this discovery exercise, we just want you to have fun. Find a few fun image or text generators to play around with and write a post in your blog about one of your favorites. And don't forget to display the results of your experimentation on your blog!

Often adding the image you mocked up to your blog is as simple as copying and pasting code that the page provides. If not, you may just need to right click on the image and then save it to your hard drive before using Blogger’s image button to add it to your post.

If you’re having difficulty getting your image added to a post in your blog, ask a co-worker or one of us for help.

Discovery Resources:

One of our favorite tools is FD Toys' Trading Card Maker. There's a ton of librarians out there who have created their own Librarian Trading Cards. If you're up to the challenge, why not create a trading card of your own!

Discovery Exercise:

  1. Play around with some of the image generators and find one that you like.
  2. Post the result of your discovery process in your blog. (Be sure to include a link to the image generator itself, so other participants can discover it too.)

So roll up your sleeves and prepare to have fun discovering and exploring some neat little apps.

* Images created with Dummies Book Generator, FD Toys Magazine Cover, Comic Strip Generator.

Thing #10 sure was interesting...I wasn't aware that there were so many different things you could alter. I finally settled on creating a library trading card. You can to! Just visit

http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/deck.php

You can even type in "Librarian Trading Cards" on Flickr to find hundreds of other librarians.

To see my card, go to:

These were FUN -- wish I was a bit more creative. It also occurs to me that I'd better start book-marking my favorite site for editing images or I will never find them again. EEK!

It was fun playing around with these. I didn't do the trading card thing b/c I don't want to join one more website. I get too much junk mail the way it is!

I was able to successfully add a manipulated image to my blog post! Yahoo! This was a lot of fun to play with. Please note, however, that the link to ALA's Mini Read Posters is not working. You can still get to it by using the search function at the main ALA site.

The image generators were fun. I made a trading card of our pet cat. I tried to make a puzzle of a bear but that didn't work out so well. Check out my blog. I included links to JD Flickr Toys.

It was pretty cool.....I posted the jack o lantern at http://kathysbookshelf.blogspot.com I thought it would be cool to have this on a library web page announcing a halloween activity for teens.

This was interesting. I can see lots of uses from some of these. I made a poster and thought about how kids would love to have posters made of them reading.
