Thing #23: Is this really the end? Or just the beginning?

Wow! Congratulations!! You’ve reached the 23rd thing. Be sure to give yourself a pat on the back for completing the program. Your reward for completing this journey before the January 30th deadline is an entry into the contest for an 8GB Creative Zen MP3 Player. But before sending you off, we ask for one last discovery post.

For your last and final exercise for this program, please reflect on your learning journey and post a few thoughts. Here are some questions to prompt you if you're drawing a blank ...

  • What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
  • How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
  • Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
  • What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?

    And last but not least…

  • If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again choose to participate?
In closing, we want to thank each and every one of you for joining us on this journey. Our greatest hope is that this not the end of our learning journey together as a library community, but rather it’s just the start of something amazing

Thank you!
Allana, Christa, Michael, and Susan

Shazam; wherever you go, there you are.
I certainly learned some things -- things that are already making a difference for our library & its community of users.
None of Kilgore 4 U, our library's delicious tags, and very little of yorklib on FLICKR existed when this L2NE exploration started. Thanks for a fascinating trip. -- Stan Schulz

When I started this "thing" last October I really didn't think I would make it all the way. NLC staff has been a great support and when I got stuck very helpful. I liked the wiki, I even ended up liking youtube, I had fun with flicka and my typing is getting better with all the blogging I have been doing. With all the info on the internet, a second thing is needed. The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know. Thanks for the "THINGS"More on my blog http://librarianbrenda.blogspot.com/

Thing #23! yea!!
I enjoyed knowing about the different things.
I don't know that this has really assisted or affected my lifelong learning goals.
The exception to this is that I would like to have time to go back and spend more time exploring some of these things.
Some of the training is difficult if you aren't familiar with the terms and the most difficult part has always been finding time.
If we do this again, I would like to have time to work with someone else and not have to be behind on other library work

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
Really, most of it, but especially Flickr, Librarything, Youtube, my blog.......

How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
It has been so fragmented for me and this spells frustration. Yet, I am so excited to think, with the help of Nebraska Learns 2.0, I touched the surface of what is available.

Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
Absolutely, but I won't bore you with them. I feel as if I need time to process it all. I believe what will happen is that in my daily work here at the library I will have new tools to use, to suggest, etc.

What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept? And last but not least…
You have done a fantastic job--just need more time to accomplish it all (speaking only for myself.)

If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again choose to participate?
Yes!

Learning is a journey of discovery, a begining, but never ending.
This program gave a "push" to enter a world of "things" that were new and different, not all good, some useful, and others....
It was a LONG trip, next time a shorter excursion would be better.
You never know what you're missing until you give it a try,
so YES, a another journey of discovery would be welcome-just a little shorter.

When I began this journey I wasn't sure I could complete it but here I am at the end. I fill like I am just beginning. I have learned a great deal, but now I need to go back and utilize each thing I looked at and spend more time on them. I just scratched the surface and have a great deal to learn. What a journey. I had never looked at Twitter, or Delicious and now am involved. I would love to take part in another discovery if and when you host it. Please let me know what a wonderful job you did on presenting Nebraska Learns 2.0. Thank you.

Definitely a beginning! Now starts the application level of figuring out how to use some of the "Things" we have learned to create better communication and service for our library patrons. I really did answer most of your questions in my blog! I think ther are at least 13 staff members from HPL that have completed, so we have lots to process. Thanks again valiant NLC staff!

Learning all these Things has been great. My favorites are; LibraryThing, RSS, podcast and slideshare. In the near future, I can see myself using the following 'Things' for the library: RSS, wiki, and podcast.
It is very useful to see videos or presentations on 'how to'. As I mentioned before I do enjoy learning but I have trouble figuring out somethings. For example, I'm learning how to kneat and I'm having trouble with my second scarf. Now I have other sites besides YouTube where I can search for 'how to'. I'm also looking forward to incorporate some of the 'Things' in Teen Tech Week, while teaching Internet, and communicating with our local community.

My favorite Discoveries were many ie; Grabbing a Blog, Flickr, PBwiki, YouTube, and the Podcasts. This course has allowed me access to the right resource so that someone in their fifties that didn't grow up with this technology could catch up some-I can still learn!!-it's a great feeling, I was missing so much. My take away will be that learniing is still possible with the correct resource materials such as Nebraska Learns 2.0. I would like to see the major portions of this course kept as permanent resource classes for people like me that have never had the chance to be exposed to this material from the technical/building side. I would like to see the uses of different tools used in each section expanded so that a person would have a more comfortable feel for it rather than just an intro. This course has been the best ever!! Put my name at the top of the list for signing up for the next chapter of Nebraska Learns 2.0!!! Thank you, Thank you!!!
